WHO WE ARE

GO60mpg is a joint effort of Environment America, National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, Safe Climate Campaign, Sierra Club, and Union of Concerned Scientists.

OUR MISSION

Call on President Obama to strengthen fuel efficiency and auto pollution standards so America can drive away from the high cost of oil dependence.

Soaring gas prices are hurting Americans at the pump and, as summer nears, the pain isn’t likely to let up.

It's a problem we can't drill our way out of. Leaders from both parties are coming to terms with the facts: Drilling won't bring prices down at the pump anytime soon. In fact, more drilling will only prolong our dependence on oil, threaten our treasured habitats and help Big Oil rake in even higher profits—while millions of Americans continue to struggle with sky-high fuel costs.

So how can we get a handle on this mess? A very real and commonsense solution is fuel efficiency.

American innovation and technology can build cars and trucks that save us money at the pump, clean up our air, and cut our dependence on oil… all while creating jobs right here at home.

We’re already seeing it on the roads, with a growing demand for cleaner, more fuel efficient cars, trucks, and SUVs. But the auto industry still isn't getting the picture and is instead dragging its feet on adopting strong standards for the vehicles of tomorrow. That’s why we’re sounding the call to strengthen fuel efficiency and auto pollution standards to at least 60 miles per gallon and reduce carbon pollution 6 percent per year between 2017 and 2025. And we want to make sure that call is heard in Washington.

The Obama administration is now developing the fuel efficiency and auto pollution standards that will apply to new vehicles sold between 2017-2025. By stepping up and setting the strongest standards, President Obama has a chance to make history, provide long term relief to American consumers and help end our addiction to oil.

Help us deliver our message to the White House. Tell President Obama it's time for America to Go60mpg!
